Bb Team Meeting

Present:  Mark Nordblom, Garry Brand, Eric Kunnen, Meegan Willi, Jose Mora

1) Trends and Issues Tracking – Reports from the Help Desk (Help Desk)

  • Camtasia Relay server down, a faculty contacted the help desk last night when recordings were not being processed.
  • Mark rebooted the system. The system got really busy and went to a read-only state. The only way out is to reboot the system and relaunch Apache.
  • Who is responsible for watching the raidercast server?
  • Relay is back up and running, processing and publishing recordings.
  • All other systems are running well.
  • No reports from the help desk.

2) Overall Health of System Check In – How are sessions/diskspace, etc. (Mark)

  • We are doing well with file space.
  • There are some large files getting created by Snapshot that were removed to free up space.
  • Mark is working with Scott on creating monitors which can be added to a public webpage in the future for monitoring ping, file space, and others.
  • There is currently 18% free space in the content system.
  • At 10% free space, more space is added.

3) Bb15 App Server Restart Issue and Database Indexing (Mark)

  • Mark is clearing the TomCat temp space on Bb7, Bb10, and Bb11 via a script written by Mark.
  • Mark is researching Blackboard’s knowledge base on this issue.
  • Mark will submit a ticket with Blackboard to ensure that this course of action is supported.
  • The database indexing was resolved.
  • The system is still laggy whether in the discussion board, gradebook, or just accessing a course or content.
  • Mark will submit a ticket to Blackboard.
  • Could it be just one app server that is having problems and acting laggy for users? Do we have any way to get metrics on the response time of the separate servers?

4) Relay Content Communication (Mark)

  • Discussion regarding the structure of using folders by year.
  • We should let faculty know how things work. Files go into yearly folders, and then at a specific time (e.g.once per year after the new folder is created) we purge files that are so many years old or that have not been accessed in x weeks.
  • Garry will draft a policy for cleaning files from the system for next week’s team meeting.

5) SP8/9 Pilot Server Cleanup (Meegan)

  • Meegan emailed all pilot faculty this week.
  • Meegan will follow up with those who have not yet replied.
  • The goal is to have the server cleaned up before the Thanksgiving Break.

6) W13 Course Creation (Team)

  • The first day of Winter 2013 courses is January 14, 2013.
  • Courses need to be created on December 7, 2012.
  • Eric will communicate with Bill to ensure we are on target for changing the tables.

7) Publisher Building Blocks (Team)

  • What building blocks do we have installed currently?
  • We do not have Wiley Plus at this time.
  • We may not have Pearson?

8) Respondus in App Explorer (Mark)

  • Mark has no heard anything recently from Paul on this software.

9) Bb Student and Faculty Survey (Eric)

  • Eric will email out the survey we run each semester for feedback.
