  • ADA Collaboration – Anne S and Sarah R were connected via email with a contact University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who has extensive experience in working with Blackboard as it relates to ADA.

  • Project 1 – Extend DL Program
    • CO 171 Approved – A new course was approved to be offered online through the online course review committee.

DLIT Staff Reports

This area includes accomplishments, milestones, or comments from DLIT staff that is not included in the work outlined in the Department and College Action Projects area and categories above.

  • Eric Kunnen
    • MQA – Performed data gathering for Blackboard student surveys from 2008 to 2011 for request from Lisa F and Vicki J.
    • Reviewed National Association of College and University Attorneys presentation shared by Diane P on State Authorization, Fraud, and Student Complaint process.  Shared feedback to recipients based on what GRCC has been doing.
    • Attended the Staff Development & HR Present:  M & C Pay for Performance Overview session to learn about new processes coming with the new review system.
    • Authored DLIT Newsletter and Deployed
    • Worked with IT to track and respond to Bb and technology startup issues.
    • Worked on DL CAP Updates for Donna by Sept 1.
    • Investigated Bb customizations needed in course tools.  For example, turned off standards/goals/outcomes while these features are researched for curriculum and program review needs.
    • Attended Opening Day!
    • CO171 Course Review – Assisted in course review process for a new online course developed by Tim K.
    • Participated in a Blackbaord Connect Confence call to meet new account representative and to learn about the new Professor Notification Tool coming in September for GRCC.
    • Developed and communicated Application Explorer “How to” for updating Firefox browser on campus computers.
    • Assisted with faculty dropins on Friday.  Questions dealt mainly with getting started topics and Bb Basics.
    • Worked on narrative and edited the Teaching and Learning Quality Model.
    • Responded to email from faculty regarding questions about Blackboard.  Helped 34 faculty with course copy, Bb basics, how to access photo roster, file permission issues, course copy delays, etc.
    • CO122 Course Review – Setup a meeting with an instructor who is working to develop CO122 online.  The work needed to be finalized is connected to the course review rubric.
    • Attended the ISIS Directors meeting were the Completion Agenda, HLC teaching quality standards, UDL, and Michigan Quality Visit was discussed.
    • Assisted students looking for the math department, science building, counseling, and other opening of the semester questions.
  • Meegan Willi
    • Attended Opening Day Festivities on August 23rd.
    • Met with Mary G. to finish up work on new online course GH 110. Mary submitted the course for review on August 28th.
    • Assisted with drop-ins on August 24th, there were almost 20 faculty who stopped by. I helped man 316 Main from 9 am to noon and 1 to 5 pm.

    • Scheduled a meeting for the online course review team in September. We currently have two courses on the agenda.
    • Met with Eric and Ric to discuss the upcoming semester and year, our roles and projects, on August 28th.
    • Met with Judy B. regarding the development of a new online course, CO 122. We went through the rubric line by line to create a list of what needs to be updated/focused on in the course development and design before the course is ready to submit for review. Judy B. will be back for Camtasia studio help (just how to share/export to the GRCC relay server) and to work on CO 122 (development timeline) as early as August 31st.
    • Assisted other faculty/staff/student drop ins and submitted tracking forms to – summary is available here [] – 28 faculty/staff/students, (1) copy and pasting with shortcuts in the new visual text box editor (VTBE) in Blackboard, (2) Export/Import tests and a question with camtasia relay – playing videos in PowerPoints and capturing, (3)  Looking for the best way to give instructors a form to enter grades in during a clinical setting, (4) PDF wouldn’t open in Blackboard, reattached and fixed the problem, (5) combining multiple sections of a course (is it possible?), (6) question on why a dropped course still shows up on Blackboard list, (7) cannot remember username or password, (8) course copy, (9) 500 error due to having more than 50 items in a content area, (10) weighted grading column, (11) course copy, (12) course copy of grade center, (13) inquiring on issues with Bb in 3 different courses – has a ticket in with IT but no answers yet. Did recommend she check and update her browser, (14) looking for mashup icon in new VTBE, (15) export/import tests and may be having course copy issues, (16) where are groups located in Blackboard, (17) course copy and export/importing tests, (18) having issues with editing and other things in Blackboard – recommended she try to upgrade Firefox, (19) looking for hyperlink icon in new VTBE, (20) how to add test student, (21) looking to check out a Kodak Zi8 camera, (22) questions on finishing up and submitting an online course for review, (23) questions on converting VHS to DVD and how to get Groupwise on iPad, (24) how to print exams from Blackboard or publisher test banks, (25) rotating a pdf – permanently fixed it, (26) how to find someone to answer a question on the Honors Program, (27) Questions on the Blackboard Advanced training on 9/7 and the video training in November, (28) still waiting on a course copy.

      • I need some assistance in setting up an account.  I tried to do so from my home computer and could not get it to work.
      • I registered for a class online and never got any information about tution and when it was due. Since class starts today and it is not listed in my courses
        I assume I have been dropped for nonpayment.  Where is this information located and why was I not notified?  I have tried several times to log into the learning center and it says that I am already registered but my password and info I submit does not work!  I can get to my blackboard! when are exams for online classes as you probably can see i been trying to find my syllabus on here since 7 this morning. can you pleses show me how. i will be logging on everyday several times a day. thank you.
      • How many times does one student have to take this Orentation? Please notify all instructors so I don’t have to repeat BB orentation for all classes individually. Thank You
      • I am an active duty military member currently serving out of state. I am attempting to apply online to the Michigan Virtual College courses and cannot figure out where my residency resides. Would I be considered part of GRCC or LCC?
