I’m waiting on the follow-up email with a link to the recording and materials to share. In the meantime, here is a link that Stephanie shared with us which has a plethora of clicker resources: http://www.cwsei.ubc.ca/resources/clickers.htm.

      • Good afternoon Distance Learning Faculty!Fall is quickly approaching – the semester begins on August 27th!We have developed a webpage (http://cms.grcc.edu/onlineteachingtips) with a series of resources to assist you in helping to ensure student success and retention in your online courses. In order to help you get started on the right foot, here are the important points from the Before the Semester Begins page.

        Prepare Your Course Shell

All Fall courses were created on July 27th. You will have access to your courses as soon as you are assigned as the instructor in PeopleSoft. Once you have access to the course, you can either build your course from scratch or copy content from another course. For help copying content, check out this tipsheet.

        Check Content and Links

There is a detailed checklist available, click here to download it as a pdf.

        Post a Welcome Announcement

In your welcome message you may want to include the date/time of class, a brief course overview, instructor’s name and contact information, any textbook information, as well as how you intend to use Blackboard. If you are teaching an online course, direct students to where they should begin such as linking them to an orientation or the course syllabus.

        Open your Course Early

Blackboard courses will automatically become available for students on the first day of the semester, August 27th; however, you can control this and open the course early. For more help, view this tip sheet or watch this video.

        Remember, Help is Available

If you need one-on-one help, stop by 351 Main on Friday, August 24th between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, or contact dlit@grcc.edu  to schedule an alternative time. If you are interested in attending trainings during the fall semester, check out the Center for Teaching Excellence’s registration page at www.grcc.edu/ctereg.

        Have a wonderful Fall Semester!

      • I am registering for an online class for this fall and am curious about a few things. I’ve taken an online class here before and the one I have registered for the fall is significantly more  expensive than the last one. Is there a reason why I have to pay the campus activities fee and all of these other fees when I’m not even going to be on campus?
