Weekly Updates – April 13

The following updates are from the DLIT Department for the week ending April 13th.

  • Blackboard Analytics Field Trial – Held call with Bb Inc. to review data warehouse and analytics information and reports available through Bb system activity and item tracking.
  • ELI Online Spring Focus Session – DLIT participated in this event and hosted it in the CTE.

Department Action Projects & College Action Projects

  • Project 1 – Extend DL Program
    • BA101 and CO212 was approved for online delivery.
  • Project 2 – Enhance Classroom and Instructional Technologies

  • Project 3 – Extend Blackboard Learn, Content, Community
    • Blackboard Service Pack 8 Upgrade
      – The pilot of SP8 begins this summer on April 30th.  Several instructors will be teaching live in the new system.

  • Eric Kunnen
    • Lecture Capture Webinar – Attended Lawson State CC webinar and blogged notes here:  GRCC should do a better job of promoting the use of Relay across departments and the curriculum for tutorials, lectures, mini-lecture-ttes, the Flipped Classroom use, and more.
    • ISIS directors meeting – Attended the meeting to discuss space, dept plans, upcoming events.
    • Analytics for Learn preparation and Review of Proclarity – Reviewed current reports available through the data warehouse in Analytics for Learn.
    • Student Survival Guide – Added DL into the student survival guide (to promote DL and flexible learning options for students) as it wasn’t there in the original copy.
    • Courses Approved – BA 101 and CO 212 approved and notices sent.
    • Attended and Blogged during the ELI Online Spring Focus Session – Katie Daniels, Eric Kunnen, Meegan Willi, Bruce Morrison, Garry Brand, Ann Meilof joined this online conference on Learning Analytics, Blackboard Analytics for Learn, early alert, and more.  The full program is available here along with a post by Garry Brand:  Also this page is available (created by Garry Brand) to host GRCC based resources related to analytics:  Blog posts are available here:
    • Donuts Event
      – Highlighted and promoted the monthly DLIT donut event.  This month’s them is the flipped classroom.

    • Flipped Classroom
      – Many of you are already likely aware of this teaching methodology as it’s been in the news recently.  In a nutshell in a flipped classroom students watch lectures at home and class time is used for interactive group work, homework, and discussion.
      – We have the technology to support this model through Blackboard and Camtasia Relay.

    • Online Course Review Team had their monthly meeting on April 10th
    • AGC Clicker Issue: iClickers were voted in as the new campus standard in the April AGC meeting.
    • Attended Blackboard Team Meeting on April 5th
    • Met with Eric and Garry to discuss faculty and student FAQs for the DLIT website on April 5th
    • Universal Design for Learning
      -Began work to add universal design for learning and universal design of instruction resources to the DLIT website:
      -Exploring resources available on UDL and UDI in online courses to evaluate the current online course readiness rubric
    • Attended ELI Spring Focus Sessions on Learning Analytics April 11th and 12th
