ELI Project Round – Focus on Lecture Capture & Student Success Plans

  • Ohio State has a focus on capturing all lectures.
  • “I can see it in my own grades that I was better able to prepare for these classes then for the ones in previous quarters” – Ohio State Student on Lecture Capture
  • Analytics on lecture capture use measures minutes watched, accessed, etc.
  • Evidence is focused on course outcomes, faculty development, program outcomes, and institutional outcomes.
  • Faculty training suggestions: record everything, expect some empty seats, refer to tools and track with data, engage with course redesign.
  • Student outcomes include: high satisfaction rates, less stress, do people that watch more lectures have better grades?
  • Strategies on course design: analytics as intervention tool, measure the impact of interventions, use the LMS, engage students at risk.

  • Focus is on at risk students with goal to improve retention, increase graduation rates, engage faculty with early alert, web based counseling and tracking for case management…
  • Overall goal: “To remove silos between offices that support students.
  • Evidence of impact – students involved in this program have shown 37% increase in retention compared to those that did not participate.  Sinclair has additional data that shows this program has been successful.

  • Sinclair plans to release the student success plan software to opensource in July.
