Weekly Updates – January 6 and 13

The following updates are from the DLIT Department for the week ending January 6th and 13th.

Department Action Projects & College Action Projects

This area includes accomplishments or milestones regarding Departmental and College Action Project(s).

  • Project 1 – Extend DL Program
    • Teaching Lab Sciences Online – DLIT promoted and coordinated a webinar through ITC on teaching lab science classes online.  Bill Faber, Laurie Foster, Meegan Willi, Eric Kunnen, and Jennifer Batten attended.
    • Student Orientation Meeting – Eric Kunnen, Jose Mora, Ed Sosa, Eric Mullen, Amanda Chatel, Don Vanoeveran, Susan DelRaso will meet on Thursday to evaluate how to improve online student orientations.  Since DLIT is not a student facing department, support is needed from areas that are on the fringes and closer to students and have resources to support the work.
  • Project 2 – Enhance Classroom and Instructional Technologies
    • Eric Kunnen joined the Learning Environments Team.
    • TLT Showcase – The planning team met to review nomination form process for Excellence in Teaching with Technology Award and Logistics.  This event will be held March 22. Spread the word! http://www.grcc.edu/showcase
  • Project 3 – Extend Blackboard Learn, Content, Community
    • Blackboard Team Meeting – These are now held on Thursday mornings.
    • Field Trial for Analytics – The server has been prepped and we are working with the analytics team to install and implement the system.
    • Bb Collaborate Pilot – This is now live!  The capabilities include live online class lectures, meetings, trainings.
    • SP8 Installed – GRCC is participating in a beta and product development partnership with Blackboard for Service Pack 8 and the new Visual Text Box Editor.
    • Goals and Standards with SP8 – Eric Kunnen met with Katie Daniels to review features included with Sp8 around goals, standards, outcomes, rubrics etc. for curriculum and program review.

  • Social Sciences Department Visit – Eric Kunnen and Meegan Willi will attend and present at the department meeting on Friday, highlighting online learning, support, Meegan’s role, resources, etc.

    • Attended TLT Planning Meeting on January 10th
    • Attended Blackboard Team Meeting on January 12th
    • Attended FPD CAP Meeting Met with faculty member regarding password changes and syllabus uploads
