Weekly Updates – December 16

The following updates are from the DLIT Department for the week ending December 16th.

Community

  • ITC Award Winner, Garry Brand – And… we have a winner!!!  🙂 Big week in DLIT!  Garry Brand received the 2012 ITC (Instructional Technology Council) Outstanding eLearning Faculty Award.  This was picked up by Twitter nationally and he is recognized on the ITC Homepage, the DLIT Blog, and on GRCC Today.
  • ACTL Meeting – On Friday, Eric Kunnen will participate in the EDUCAUSE Advisory Committee for Teaching and Learning.  The topic is on virtual conferences and events.

Department Action Projects & College Action Projects

This area includes accomplishments or milestones regarding Departmental and College Action Project(s).

  • Project 1 – Extend DL Program
    • Bb Collaborate – Meegan Lillis and Garry Brand are hosting a training/overview session for faculty on Friday for the upcoming Bb Collaborate Pilot.
    • EA CAP – Eric Kunnen attended the 5.1.2 early alert cap meeting.  Garry and Meegan provided feedback for the auto-email that is sent to students for online courses and last login flag.
  • Project 2 – Enhance Classroom and Instructional Technologies
    • Relay Upgrade – Planning for the upgrade to 3.1 and also 4.0 in the future.  Discussion occurred at the Bb Team Meeting.
  • Project 3 – Extend Blackboard Learn, Content, Community
    • Bb Team Meeting – The team met to discuss end of semester and ongoing projects.  Minutes located here.
    • Bb IM Tutorial – Meegan Lillis created a tutorial for the instant messaging tool.  The video is available here:  http://youtu.be/fWNNZ1DHJvQ
    • Bb Portal Enhancements – Eric Kunnen hosted a meeting with Derek Devries to discuss improvements to the Bb portal for communications and information delivery to faculty and students.
    • Bb Analytics Field Trial – Eric Kunnen and Jody Graves attended a field trial conference call meeting with Bb Inc. to discuss implementation plans for the new toolset of reporting.  (Jody Graves is leading the work on both Analytics and Analytics for Learn solutions.)

  • Donuts with DLIT – DLIT hosted a Donuts and Distance Learning & Bagels and Blackboard event.  The event was captured in a blog post by Garry Brand.
  • Web Page Updates – Eric Kunnen updated the following DLIT web pages:  grcc.edu/bbtipsheets /bbfaqs, /inthenews, /memberships, /bbteachingonlinefaqs, /onlinecourserequest, /softchalk, /grccdigital, and /relay  – Meegan updated /bbim and Garry provided updates to /bbcollaborate
  • New Web Page – Garry Brand created a new web page for the Blackboard Drive.  See: grcc.edu/bbdrive

DLIT Staff Reports

This area includes accomplishments, milestones, or comments from DLIT staff that is not included in the work outlined in the Department and College Action Projects area and categories above.

  • Eric Kunnen
    • Facilitated TWIDLIT – This week in DLIT which is our weekly internal staff meeting.
    • Sent Thank You messages and a small token of appreciation to the faculty participating on the DL FAB (Faculty Advisory Board). http://www.grcc.edu/dlfab
    • Provided web updates listed above.
    •  Met with David Anderson to discuss Blackboard administration support, Bb Analytics, projects, and we plan to continue to meet every 2 weeks.
    • Closed out the Bb Survey for Students and Faculty in Zoomerang.  Results will be reviewed next week.
    • Arm wrestled Jose.
    • Provided updates for the Faculty Handbook that is required for the HLC visit.
    • Attended the ISIS project meeting and solicited feedback on the online course request process which generated a new timeline graphic and enhancements to the request form.  See: grcc.edu/onlinecourserequest for more information.

    • ·       DLIT Donuts & Bagels Prep, Advertising and Promotion
      ·       Met and trained two faculty members on Camtasia Relay on December 8th
      ·       Attended Donuts & Bagels on December 9th
      ·       Met with instructor regarding development of new online course on December 9th
      ·       Blackboard Collaborate kick-off Virtual Meeting on December 9th
      ·       TWIDLIT – This week in DLIT Meeting December 12th
      ·       Bb Administrator PDP – File Picker Webinar on December 12th
      ·       Review Online Course: CO 232 in Preparation for Course Review Committee Meeting
      ·       Finished DL Faculty Advisory Board Meeting Minutes from 12/6 – emailed to group on December 12th
      ·       Attended the ISIS Project Management Meeting on December 12th
      ·       Updated Webpages; /bbmobile, /bbconnect, /bbim
      ·       Met with Eric Kunnen and Linda Spoelman on Blackboard tools
      ·       Online Course Review Committee met on December 13th, completed and submitted reviews for CO 230 and CO 232 for final approval for online delivery
      ·       Scheduled monthly Online Course Review Committee Meetings for Winter 2012
