ECAR Report – Highlights

A few highlights from the Educause Center for Applied Research (ECAR) report:

Top 5 technologies students wish their instructors would use more:
1) email, (Gmail, Groupwise)
2) learning management system (Blackboard),
3) presentation software, (Powerpoint)
4) discussion boards, (Blackboard)
5) online chats (Blackboard IM)

Selected technologies used by students:
87% laptop,
62% iPod,
55% smartphone,
53% desktop computer,
11% Netbook,
8% iPad

Uses of smartphones on the go:
1) Email professors,
2) Checking grades,
3), Texting students about homework,
4) Looking up info outside of class,
5) Emailing other students
6) Access course websites and syllabi
