Blackboard Team Meeting: September 21, 2011

In attendance: Meegan Lillis, Fred Bauman, Mark Nordblom, Garry Brand, Eric Kunnen

Action Steps from last week:

  • Mark will install SoftChalk Building Block in production on September 14th. Completed
    • SoftChalk is currently showing up in Course Tools for all instructors, even though by default we’d prefer to have it hidden by default.
  • Mark will find out when the photo roster was last updated from the transact system, and look into updating the system and building thumbnails.
    • Thumbnails have been updated
    • Mark will be meeting with Szymon to update the roster with  new students and faculty data
  1. No updates from the help desk.
  2. Update on Project Database – Xythos Drive Project
    • The Xythos drive is complete on the IT side, now it can be turned over to DLIT for a faculty pilot.
  3. Grade Center Due Date Fixes Update
    • This is a low priority project to fix a building block for mass updating due dates via the Due Date Building Block which was programmed to work with Bb 9.0 but not Bb 91.
    • This project will be closed until further notice.
  4. Service Pack 7
    • Being downloaded today
    • There are 100+ fixes in SP7
  5. Issue: Guest Access setting is changed during export/import of courses, so some faculty have materials available to guests without their knowledge.
    • All menu items in a course for next semester have been set to disallow guest access to counter this issue.
    • Faculty will have to turn on course access at the course level and then for each individual item or area they wish guests to be able to access.
  6. Student Expired Passwords
    • Online students do not get notice that their password is about to expire.

Action Steps:

  • SoftChalk  settings for the Score Center need to be registered on production.
  • Garry will follow up with faculty on Xythos Pilot.
  • Over the next week, the team will review and assess the lists of fixes in SP7, and we will determine our next move in the September 28th meeting.
  • Need to submit a project request to either notify students of expiring passwords or push out self-service password reset which could eliminate the need for this.
    • Potentially a module that users see in Blackboard when they log in which indicates when their password will expire, and gives them the opportunity to reset their password.
    • Fred will be getting updates on self-service resets on September 22 and will update the team in the next meeting.
  • Mark will follow-up with Kevin on final grades functionality between Blackboard and PeopleSoft. Track this issue over the Fall semester.
