Garry Brand – Providing Video Feedback for Students in Blackboard

Garry Brand is Professor in the Business Department. He teaches online/hybrid courses at GRCC, and also works in the Distance Learning and Instructional Technologies Department as a lead faculty professional development facilitator.

Video FeedbackProviding Engaging Student Feedback

Did you know you can easily provide video feedback to students when you grade participation in a discussion board forum? The latest version of Blackboard (9.1, SP3) adds a text editor to the Forum Grade area.

I imagine, the YouTube mashup tool would work great because it would embed a small thumbnail that the student could easily see and click. I worked around this by embedding the video (recorded directly to YouTube with my webcam) and customized the size (width 240).

I’m anxious to see if students pay more attention to video feedback. You can add video feedback to other areas, including the Grade Center.

Are you using video for feedback with your students? If so, how?

Great idea. It would be much better when the dang YouTube mashup begins working!
