Blackboard Team Meeting – June 17

Present: Garry Brand, Szymon Machajewski, Eric Kunnen, Peggy Gorno

  • Bb8 Reported Problem – This morning, students reported problems with the production system was producing Error 500 errors.  We are still researching and looking at the database.
  • Service Pack 1 is now available.  We need to test this and it will be applied to bb16 in test before applying to pilot.
  • Planning for Bb Visit – Need to setup a set of faculty to be involved.
  • Bb Discussion Board Grading Performance – The performance on this feature needs to be optimized.
  • Bb Notifications – We need to ensure that student notifications are managed appropriately.  This is especially important for enrollment notifications.  Ideally we would turn this off.
  • Bb 9.1 Upgrade Planning – The production url for Bb (bb.grcc.edu) will be switched to Bb 9 on August 20th.  The 9.1 server is planned to be available on July 1 so faculty have additional time (an additional month).  Communication plan needs to include browser recommendation for Firefox. We also need to ensure computer labs have appropriate browser and version.  The following is the certified set of browsers for Blackboard:
    Windows Client Configurations
    Internet Explorer 8
    Internet Explorer 7
    Firefox 3.6
    Firefox 3.5
    Mac OSX Client Configurations
    Safari 4.0
    Safari 3.2
    Firefox 3.6
    Firefox 3.5.x
    Mac OSX 10.5 “Leopard”
    Mac OSX 10.6 “Snow Leopard”
  • Communication – A communication needs to be sent out to leadership around the upgrade.
  • Bb Mobile – We plan to setup a specific app server for this purpose and this is what will be used for the mobile learn registration.  This would be the best way to track usage and monitor logs, etc.
  • Starfish – Pilot begins and training is set for Monday for the counselors.
  • Updates for PS Grade Integration – Still in progress.
  • Infrastructure – Szymon met with Ed, Dononvan, and Erich about the hardware necessary to complete the upgrade.
